The Ferns Heritage Project Group was set up as a Sub -Committee of Ferns Development Association in 2015 to focus on developing and promoting Ferns Christian/Medieval heritage as a tourism product. For detials of this year's conference click here Ferns Heritage Conference 2017

Currently the group is organising a second 'Ferns Heritage Conference' to be held in September 2017. Last year's conference was entitled 'Gaelic Capital and Norman Stronghold'. This involved a two day symposium exploring Wexford's transformation from Gaelic kingdom to Norman lordship. This was a unique opportunity to hear from some of Ireland's foremost historians and archeologists, all in the very special setting of the 'Ancient Capital of Leinster'.

Upcoming projects include:

* A photographic competition. Closing date for entries is August 30th. Click here for information

* Survey of St. Mary's Abbey by The Discovery Programme and funded by the Irish Heritage Council. heritageweeklogo2017.jpg
During Heritage Week - on August 24th, Dr. Edel Bhreathnach, CEO, The Discovery Programme, will give a lecture on 'The Changing landscape of Ferns in the 11th to 13th century'. This will be followed by a site visit to the area adjacent to St. Mary's Abbey where The Discovery Programme in partnership with NUI Galway, are conducting a geophysical survey. It is a continuation of a survey conducted in 2015 and the aim of the survey is to deepen our knowledge of the late medieval and early modern development.
